WEEK 04: Reflection
To be completely honest I have to admit that I didn’t end up finishing this past week’s project until Monday at around noon. It is true that I did break my own rules for this project by not having it done by Sunday night, but my schedule for the past weekend was just jammed pack. Regardless, I finished this project and the following is what I have learned.
This project certainly did not turn out how I originally thought it would, I had a vision of this project being one thing and it ended up being someone entirely different.
At first glance the results of this project reminded me of something that a 3-5 year old might do, primarily because of the bold colours, the simple shapes and the poor painting style. I began to think that this wasn’t something that I really liked, but then I realized that it mimics my life in many ways. Not so much in the fact that I can act like a child, but rather, I love bold statements made with colours, I love simplicity and the minimalist nature of things and I love the fact that when all distraction are removed (from anything) the actual purpose and meaning of a subject can be seen for what it really is.
One thing that I want to note is the fact that I put far more effort into this project than I thought I would have. I can’t say what exactly was the reason, just that I spend a ton of time on this (even if the product does not reflect it in your opinion).
Completing this project has left me wanting to paint something different, with a different subject all-together. Although I typically would not want to complete two projects in the same medium two weeks in a row I have had some inspiration for something I want to paint (details about this will come at the end of next week) and I feel like doing this project right now.1
With that said, I am off to attempt another painting.
- NOTE: The two projects I am planning on completing over the next couple of weeks I am excited for as they aren’t the typical type of projects I would expect myself to do. [↩]
